Barbie collectors from over 140 countries around the world
enjoy sharing their enthusiasm. It would be hard to put a
figure as to how many Barbie collectors there truly are! I
have seen estimations from 50,000 to 100,000 collectors
world wide.
Trying to guess the percentage that are women would be hard
to do as there are many men who enjoy collecting as well.
The estimation of how many Barbie dolls each collector
purchase each year might be safe in the tune of 20 dolls
each year. With the variety and selection it is hard for
some to narrow down their choices. Saying the average
collectible Barbie doll costs around $50 then that puts them
spending at least $1000 a year. While to some this seems
steep but to others it seems cheap!
There are so many ways for Barbie collectors to share their
love for Barbie. The main attraction is the Barbie
Convention. It is held annually in different cities within
the USA. 2008 Convention will be held in Kansas City,
Missouri. The 50th Anniversary Convention will be in
Washington D.C.
You can find information for Barbie conventions on their
website
www.barbieconvention.com. Mattel, Barbie Clubs and
collectors work hard to make each year better and better.
Europe holds a Barbie Convention in Paris annually as well.
Another great event is the Grant A Wish GAW where doll
collectors reach out to the community. You can find
information for this event on their website
www.gawfund.org.
While these events are only annually there are plenty of
doll shows and other mini conventions around the world as
well. Mattel creates a doll for these three major events.
These dolls are always limited and very popular.
Barbie Doll Clubs are a great way to meet old and new
collectors plus see a variety of ideas. Some options
include the
Official Barbie Fan Club and the
Barbie Forums.
